Credit Inquiry Matrix
Prequalification vs. Full Application Timeline
- 1: Submit only the information needed to check or route options.
- 2: Read the partner disclosure before authorizing any credit inquiry.
- 3: If an offer or prequalification appears, compare APR, fees, term and payment before proceeding.
- 4: Expect a lender to explain whether the next step involves a hard credit inquiry.
What a lender may review besides the score
- Income: Whether income is regular enough to support the requested payment.
- Existing obligations: Current debt and essential expenses can affect affordability.
- Bank information: Some lenders use account verification, deposit patterns or fraud checks.
- Employment or income source: The form of income can change the documents a lender requests.
- Identity and state: Product availability and verification rules can differ by state and partner.

When “no hard check” is the wrong goal
- Do not accept an unaffordable or unusually expensive offer solely because it advertises fewer credit checks.
- No hard inquiry does not mean no verification, no fees or guaranteed approval.
- If the loan only works by repeatedly borrowing again, the credit inquiry is not the biggest risk.
Decision FAQ
Questions to resolve before you submit a request
Will CTCLoans do a hard credit check?
CTCLoans is a matching service, not the creditor. The exact request-stage credit workflow must match the live partner integration. A participating lender may perform a hard inquiry under its own policy.
Does “no hard credit check” mean no credit review?
No. A lender may use a soft inquiry, alternative bureau data, income, banking or other information even when a hard inquiry is not used at an early stage.
Can I see an offer before a hard inquiry?
Some lenders offer soft-check prequalification, but availability and process vary. Read each partner’s disclosure before continuing.
Does a hard inquiry guarantee approval?
No. It is only one step in a lender’s evaluation and does not guarantee an offer.
