Credit Inquiry and Data Use

A request routed through CTCLoans can reach partners with different credit-review processes. Some may use a soft inquiry at one stage; some may obtain a hard inquiry when you proceed. CTCLoans does not promise that your request will avoid a hard credit check.

Soft inquiry vs hard inquiry

TypeWhat it means
Soft inquiryGenerally does not affect a credit score in the same way as a hard application inquiry. It may be used for screening or prequalification by some providers.
Hard inquiryCan be associated with an application for credit and may affect credit scores. A participating lender may use one under its policy and with required authorization.
Alternative or specialty dataPartners may use consumer-reporting or verification sources beyond the three nationwide bureaus, depending on their process.

If credit-report information contributes to a denial

  • A creditor that takes adverse action has notification obligations under federal law.
  • When adverse action is based on a consumer report, additional FCRA information may apply, including the reporting company’s contact details.
  • The reasons for adverse action must relate to factors actually considered by the creditor; CTCLoans should not invent or simulate a lender’s formal denial reason.
  • You have rights to review and dispute inaccurate information in consumer reports.

Decision FAQ

Questions to resolve before you submit a request

Does CTCLoans perform a hard credit inquiry?

CTCLoans is not the creditor. The live partner flow determines what consumer-report activity occurs. Participating lenders may perform hard inquiries.

Can I see what is in my credit reports?

Yes. Federal law gives consumers rights to obtain and dispute consumer-report information. See the CFPB’s consumer-reporting resources.

Who sends an adverse-action notice?

The creditor or other party taking the covered action—not CTCLoans simply because it routed the request.
